SUITABILITY ON FIRE / SMOKE DOORS

For application on fire doors, the reference character in the regulatory classification (EN) of the accessory is the 4th (except in the classification of mechatronic cylinders which is the 3rd) or:
Grade 0: not suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and / or smoke control characteristics
Grade A: suitable for use on doors with characteristics of resistance to smoke control
Grade B: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and / or smoke control characteristics
In EN12209:2016 (currently not harmonized CPR), Grade N has also been introduced, which is “suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and / or smoke control based on fire tests where the lock does not contribute to keep the door in the closed position ”
In EN12209: 2003 (harmonized CPR) there are only two grades:
Grade 0: not suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and / or smoke control characteristics
Grade 1: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and / or smoke control characteristics
For EN14846: 2008 only the following grades apply:
Grade 0: not suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and / or smoke control characteristics
Grade A: suitable for use on doors with characteristics of resistance to smoke control
Grade B: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and / or smoke control characteristics up to EI15
Grade C: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and / or smoke control characteristics up to EI30
Grade D: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and / or smoke control characteristics up to EI60
Grade E: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and / or smoke control characteristics up to EI90
Grade F: suitable for use on doors with fire resistance and / or smoke control characteristics up to EI120 or higher

The following grades apply only to EN1154: suitability for use on fire / smoke doors -> 0 o 1

LOCKS, IN-DEPTH INFORMATION ON THE THIRD AND FOURTH DIGIT

As seen above, the construction components can be defined suitable for use on fire / smoke doors. This is done by testing according to EN1634-1 or according to EN1634-2. Many times manufacturers of locks and cylinders turn to us to perform tests on their products, which are then aimed at being used as evidence intended for the notified body for the CE marking of construction components, to obtain the fourth digit.

DOOR LOCKS, CYLINDERS, HANDLES, DOOR CLOSERS IN FIRE DOORS, CAN THEY BE CHANGED?

The construction components can be, in certain cases, subject to EXAP. This is also a case for which the manufacturers turn to us, to obtain evidence to be used in an EXAP, to allow perhaps their own door manufacturer customer to replace the tested components with others. For more information, go to the EXAP section by clicking here.

The construction components can have their own HPS – Hardware performance Sheet.

HOTELS: “PANIC” DOOR CLOSERS AND LOCKS ON FIRE-RESISTANT DOORS

In relation to the door closer the D.M. 10/03/1998 in Annex III (“Measures relating to exit routes in case of fire”), Paragraph 3.9 (“Doors installed along exit routes”) states that: “All fire-resistant doors must be fitted with of self-closing device. ”

In relation to the locks, the Ministerial Decree 09/04/1994 in Annex II (“Technical fire prevention rule for the construction and operation of tourist and hotel accommodation”), TITLE II PROVISIONS RELATING TO ACCOMMODATION ACTIVITIES WITH CAPACITY EXCEEDING 25 BEDS, provides in Paragraph 7.3 “System of exit routes” which : The doors of the guest rooms must be equipped with instantaneous manual release locks from the inside, in order to facilitate the exit in case of danger.

THE CHEMOLLI FIRE CONTRIBUTION

Many times hardware manufacturers turn to us to perform tests on their products, which are then aimed at being used as evidence intended for the notified body for the CE marking of the construction components, to obtain the fourth digit.

We can carry out fire tests as follows:

  • activities for customers, where in agreement with the parties we insert products from the manufacturer of accessories;
  • dedicated activities, where we prepare everything, even the doors on which to mount the accessories.

It goes without saying that the second type of activity, on the one hand guarantees results, times and ownership of the evidence, on the other hand has higher costs.

In addition we can find evidence from our extensive database, possibly agreeing to allow the use of the same for markings or EXAP. In the case of evidence to which we are entitled, the agreement is made directly with us. In the case of evidence from clients, we check whether there is willingness to enter into an agreement with the relevant guarantees.

On the subject of EXAPwe can prepare the application to the laboratories.

On the subject of HPS, we can provide for their drafting.

Fire tests can be according to EN1634-1 or EN1634-2, see the TESTING section of our website for specific details.
